Hi
One of my cichlids (venutus sp) every so often will race up and down the tank like he is looking for a way out -- he goes from bottom to top several times. Is this normal?? Is he playing or is there something wrong??

All of my fish did that for the first day or two they were in the tank. They rarely do it now. I think it's just something that fish do. I personally wouldn't be worried. Maybe someone else will chime in with some more insight...

he has been fine and all is well within the tank -- he just does it every so often -- wondering if he has and ADD problem LOL

I had only witnessed this behavior in new fish, when they are first added until one day about a month ago. I had a M. callainos doing it. It wasn't long until a couple other fish joined in on doing it too. The other 2 soon got bored with it and went on their way but the callainos kept it up all day. It had me a little concerned because I was a couple days overdue for my weekly water change. I tested the nitrates and it wasn't really any higher than usual but I did the water change and it stopped doing it. Maybe test your nitrates and see what they are.

I tested everything and all seems to be just fine -- I noticed he and a friend were doing it for a bit -- now they are just swimming around like they normally do! Who know - I am guessing and hoping he was just feeling frisky or showing off for the ladies in the tank!! LOL
