Flashing Light

Hello all I am new to the site I have been keeping tropicals for about a year now before that I had coldwater.
After some advice if anyone has a Juwel Rekord 96 my light has started flashing this evening scaring the hell out of my fish so had to turn it off, would this be due to the tube or the starter unit I know my freinds starter unit broke and he had to buy a whole new hood for it is this the case.

It could be I think what is called a ballast....or it might be starter unit, please forgive my non-mechanical way of thinking....anyway, there is a little oblong thingy in light fixtures that can be replaced to make the light work again. Hubby fixed the light for our 20 gal long this way....if the fish/pet store doesn't have them go into a lowes or home depot with the light and they can find it for you.

Thanks very much will give that a go because I know them hoods are quite expensive dont know if I will be able to find a lowes store in the UK though Ha Ha, Im quite freindly with the local aquatic centre so will give that a bash thanks again
