Does he look pale or like he was having trouble breathing? That happened to my dwarf gourami once. I carefully scooped my hand around him and helped him to the surface, he took a breath, and then he was fine. His colour came back within half an hour. I dont remember him seeming fat though.

He could also be bloated, in which case you could try feeding him a piece of a pea without the skin.

My ph is neutral...no amonia and i have a 160litre tank.
i feed twice a day and the food is eaten in 1 min.i have neons, mollies, platy's and also another male gouramis. They do not fight and are not bullies, they are very placid actually.

Luvfins he is swimming around when he wants to.his colour is a bit dull he he is breathing hard.so he only moves when he has to.
Just dropped a pea right in front of him and he isn't interested.

If you other fish are looking fine, then you may just have a fish going bad. The fish we buy are mass bred and not all of them are that healthy. At times we just get bad fish. Dwarf Gouramis can sometime be delicate. When I have a fish that is acting unhealthy and the rest are healthy, well, I scoop the bad fish for the good of the tank. Many will not like this.

Sorry to hear about your gourami. MY suggestion is to increase the oxygen on the tank by dropping an airstone and maybe not feeding the fish for 2-3 days and see how he does. Leave the pea there thats fine. Try to make it comfertable by any means. They can be very moody

They can be very moody
Oh isn't that the truth. My gourami is such a mood butt. He hates me for some reason, fins go up when I come near the tank even to feed him and he then bolts and hides, if my daughter comes up to the tank he comes over to the glass and "kisses" it. She thinks she is hot potatoes cuz he loves her.

dwarf gouramis usually only have a 4 year span...so depending how old he is it might be an issue too.
gl I hope all goes well!

Unfortunatly he has gone to the big pond in the sky.:ssad:

I did a bit of research and discovered that it was dropsy. Will the other fish in the tank be ok?Or is dropsy contagious?

Rosey,
What water conditioner do you use? For the sole reason it's cheaper to produce, test kits measure organic Ammonia. If your tap water has Chlorine bound with Ammonia (most city water is now days), your water conditioner is breaking the bond between them, eliminating both the Chlorine and organic Ammonia. However, it doesn't nothing to inorganic Ammonia, which is used in some parts of the world to bind with Chlorine.
Dropsy is very, very rare now days, and is usually linked to shifts in water quality allowing the disease to manifest itself.
I have strong suspicions, and have for some time, that in the case of many unexplained fish deaths, the accretion of inorganic Ammonia in tanks is the culprit.
How much of a percentage and how often do you do partial water changes. What do you use to top off evaporation?
Like your cat avatar :)

The water conditioner i use is aquapet's water treatment.
As for water changes i do them once a fortnight and i do a 10% change.
As for evaporation top ups...i don't have that problem at all.so the only time i add water is when i do a partial water change once every 2 weeks.

Thanks, i love my avatar too..but i have to keep her away from all the fishies!!!!

try to do a partial change 1 time a week. That might help especially if you have ammonia instead of 1 every 2 weeks.
gl and so sorry your fish died!
