Long, Stringy Green Algae?

For years the green algae in my tank grew very short and slowly but just recently it started getting very long and stringy and growing very fast!

Just two days after cleaning the tank its back and a centimetre long!

The longest Ive let it grow was about a foot long, after that it just got too creepy.


I have no idea why this. Any help or information would be much appreciated.

Usfull website but I don't thing the algae in my aquarium is there, I think it may be Thread algae but they don't have a photo for it so Im not sure.

Maybe I'll try some of the remedies anyway, thanks.
