They are all still babies and need to come on color yet - they have been in the tank since yesterday but are settling really well so far I have even seen the Filamentosa checking out breeding area's. Hope you guys enjoy the new little guys in my tank.... I hope to get better pictures once they are more settled

You don't come across the Dicrossus Filamentosus too often so I am really happy to have a pair ... I am hoping to get another 2-3 females soon to divide the attention of the male a bit. They are pretty tough fish to keep as they are very sensitive to water quality and will not live in a higher PH.

They are in the new tank :19:

The Rams unfortunately have not colored up yet but they are just new to the tank and they are quite shy for cichlids so it is taking them a bit longer to settle...I hope to get some nice foto's of them in a weeks time <fingers crossed>

Thanks for your lovely comments Tolley & Bolivian Ram xxxx

@Bolivian Ram... I think that fish look pretty much the same everywhere seeing they are the same species LOL Be funny if every country had different Neons - ahhh look a french Neon ;) ;)

Very neat, Jess :) The checkerboards are one of my favorite little Cichlids. Looking at them makes you wonder why they aren't as popular today as they once were.

Not NLS :hmm3grin2orange:

So far they have had live white mosquito larvae, live artemia & live daphnia. From frozen they have had Black Mosquito larvae so far and didn't make a fuss luckily as they usually like only live.

Going to try flake tomorrow (Spirinula) see what they think of that :14: But I only feed flake twice a week so it is no biggy if they don't take it.

I'm amazed you had them on hard water... they usually die within 3 months of being in hard water and catch every disease going in the meantime.

Jess,

Your fish are the poster children for what you get when you feed live food to fish in sympathetic surroundings with the correct water parameters; you get luminous, healthy, fish that can breed apace.
I add fruit flies to the skeeter larvae, brine shrimp and the species of Daphnia menu for the omnivores.
Try mixing a few little pellets with a feeding of Daphnia. Took me nearly two months to get the Chelas to accept about 30 percent prepared doing that; adding a tiny percentage of prepared that raises over time to live foods.
Just so you know, have a spawn of C. caeruleostigmata I'm dealing with :). They graduated to BBS the other day.

Mine is on NLS Grow exclusevly, and she eats it up. I think thats why she is doing well in my water. The following pic sucks, but im a sucky photographer.

You can, squirt, you just need to put a bug in the ear of your local fish store manager, and stuff money in it, so when they show up on wholesaler lists he'll tell you and you can order a group of them. Make sure he has your phone number, and make sure you know what day it is he goes to the airport to pick up a fish shipment.
The money (try 30 bucks) is to make sure he remembers you and that you're serious about it, and get a receipt. It may be a few weeks or few months before you see any, but with persistence you can get them; any fish that isn't illegal, actually.

Sometimes you dont even have to go to the store to get them. I kept bugging an LFS for bolivian rams over the phone and one time they finally said, "Ill go see if its on the wholesale list"

Just a quick little foto update on the Altisponosa (Bolivians) They have grown really fast into young adults... I had a few spare moments to myself tonight and took some foto's

Female:

Male:

Will update on the Filamentosus also soon... they have had their first nest so the female now has beautiful bright red fins which is what happens to the females after they lose their 'virginity' :hmm3grin2orange:

Most of my fish are natural posers LOL It is trying to get the right fish in the lens that is my problem as they all crowd together at the front of the glass when the camera is out...<pick me, pick me> LOL

My Bolivians are from a breeder I know....his line are from wild caught.

The male does show his breeding bits & bobs now and again but the female shows hers pretty much all the time.
