I bought my first betta fish three to four days ago and now theres a layer of slim on the top of his water. He is in a small fish bowl and i have used cycle nutrafin solution to reduce fish loss and Aqua plus tap water conditioner but i used bottled water for his tank. I am completely new at this and i don't want Zepher to die! Can someone tell me what the slime is? i want to change his water but i am not sure how to do that either, i've only ever had goldfish! ( his tank is really small, about 500 - 700 ml give or take a bit)

First, before you buy any fish, you have to research it. Second, (not so sure about this) wouldn't the slime at the top of the water be his bubble nest? When I used to take care of fish in bowls, i would very slowly pour the water out of the bowl and when about 1/4th the water was gone, I would pour the bottled water in. just my two cents worth

Just a note, since this is your first betta, you should have a tank that is covered. I lost one of my first bettas because he jumped and landed on the baseboard heater. It's an awful way to go.

thanks, but the slime at the top isn't so thick like this morning, but now ther's stringy slime all through his water...i think i just need to change his water, thanks alot...i was getting a little stressed out about this weird slime. I am going to call the pet store i got him from and see what they have to say, he does have a 30 day warranty tho. but him dying would still be an incredibly sad experince. i have a screen over his bowl because we have dogs who tend to want to baby him by licking his bowl.
