View Full Version : Melafix as precaution

Yesterday i noticed my Green Terror glanced of the gravel (turned sideways and rubbed his body on the bottom).

I know that when fish are itchy it is a sign of stress and possible disease.

He only did it once or twice and I haven't noticed it again, but i am curious he has been very aggressive, i thought it was just his nature, but is it possible he is developing a disease?

Could i treat the tank with melafix as a precaution or should i wait to see if the situation gets worse, the other fish in the tank seem fine.

Thanks in advance

I have asked a similar ? and have been told to wait...melafix I don't think would do anything though for the situation because it sounds like it would be ich you are trying to treat with the "rubbing" ? pimafix I believe is the one that would be the choice. Melafix treats tail and fin rot and heals wounds or supposed to anyway I don't think it does anything for ich. But at any rate if all else is normal maybe just watch and wait. That way you would know for sure if there is anything to treat. I have heard that just like people if you over medicate you will create resistant strains of illness that wont be treated as easily.
GL and hope fishy friend was just playing or something!

Turn temps up to about 82 and treat with salt. Salt is great to get rid of ick and also for wounds.

If he has ick, a little salt will not work. You'll have to use 1 T. per every 5 gallons.

My clowns do this randomly - usually on a soft stone. Have had them for.... a year and not had ich (knock on wood). I would wait and watch him. Inspect him closely so you catch it early (if it is). :ssmile:
