Ok, so I have 1 baby Green Terror fry. I started out with 9 and they magically dissappeared. Ok so heres the story. I was gone for a while and unfortunately had to leave my boyfriend's parents in charge to watch my tanks. (I figured out that was a bad idea when we left them with our Mollies the first time and killed the babies.) When I came back the water was terribly dirty. They didn't take care of my fish like they were supposed to. Well, I cleaned out the tank because it was so dirty you couldn't see through it. When I got close to the bottom I noticed a "mini" fish and I told my boyfriend I had baby GTs. Well I finally got them all scooped out and moved them and the parents to a 20 gallon long for the night until I got my tank cleaned and it would be ready for them in the morning. I knew the parents were supposed to take care of the babies, so I left them with them. I wake up the next morning to find I only have 1 baby left. I got advise from Green Terror NYC, but was wondering if anyone else knew why maybe the parents ate them? Maybe because the water was so dirty and possibly they didn't know they were their fry? Thanks in advance.

Well no sure why, (I've heard the younger couples make mistakes). I have a GT male and 2 females. They had babies, but after the eggs hatched she moved them a couple times then one morning they were gone. About 2 weeks went by and she mated again, this time I took the 2nd female out. (she was getting beat up pretty bad by the male and 1st female)

My fish are young and nervous So I think the first time I might have scared them. Water changes, lighting. I made a lot of efforts to be subtle with them (water changes, lighting), she seemed to be extremely agressive, nervous during the first few weeks but she calmed down little by little.

I have about 50 to 60 fryes, and they (male 1st female) are dancing around, think they will be spawning again soon.

Ok. The thing that gets me is that I thought fish had to be happy and have highly clean water before they would spawn? Their tank was so bad you couldn't see through it.

the bottom of some south american rivers gets murky some times, maybe the looking dirty didn't effect the water quality, ph, ammonia etc.

I hope not! The filter was dirty, too. The filter has this really bad odor in it now. It had what looked like mold on it. Not the cartridges, but the things that sit in front of it. I cleaned it out but it's still pretty bad. And the little guy is doing great. I finally saw him eat so that's good.

sounds nasty, that little fish is a real trooper. I had african cichlid like that. I asked my cuzin to keep my fish and she over fed them, 1 week, she put so much food in the tank, there was this jelly like substance all over, real nasty I was surprised any of them were alive. Killed 6 out of 10 fish. My favorite and 1st one all white with a blue top fin and blue eyes died after another week. The runt that survived out lived and out grew every body.

Wow, lol. I moved the little guy to a betta type tank for now until I get a 10 gallon tank and a sponge filter. I'm feeding him dried crushed blood worms and he seems to love them. I would be mad if someone killed my fish. Matter or fact, someone did. This is why I'll never let someone else take care of my fish and I won't leave to stay anywhere unless I just have to. We left my bfs mom and sister in charge of our fish while we were gone and our Mollies had just had their babies and we told them NOT to let the cat in the room, and sure enough they didn't watch the cat and he got in there and knocked the babies over and most of them died. Some survived and then they call us again saying that the rest of them died. It made me so mad.
