Discus cannot be sexed until they pair up and get ready for mating (showing breeding tubes) or breed accurately.

The most accurate way is to sex them while they are paired up. In order to make a correct assumption, you basically have to look at the genital's. The male's will be fairly small, compared to the female's.

Be careful, two female's will often mimic breeding habits. This happened with me and I had no idea why the eggs weren't fertilizing... "duh".

There are also theories based on the angle of the fins, but I don't know how true it is. I have tried with my fish and it has proven to be true, but it isn't accurate.

If you click the link it will show you what I'm talking about. I don't think that is very accurate but it gives you an idea of what to look for before the actual breeding cycle happens.

The fin angles are accurate WHEN the fish are in great condition and are pretty large. Based on the fins the bottom left looks like a male and the top right looks like a female. However, you won't know for sure until they do actually pair off and start laying eggs. Do you have anything for them to lay eggs on? I use edging tile from Home Depot, 12"x3" (or something like that) and only $3. The fin extensions on the bottom left are characteristic of males.
