View Full Version : New Tank Ideas?

I'm looking into getting a second tank. I want to get a 3ft tank which is the biggest I think I can fit in the space I have (I live in a little unit!). I have the community tank, but my partner used to keep Africans and since I've seen some in the shop they seem very colourful and fun to watch.
But I have no idea what would be able to go well together. I've been trying to do some research but often scientific names are used and I have trouble remembering them and figuring out what is what. So I'm hoping the wonderful people here might have some ideas as to what would be a colourful arrangement of Africans to have?
The tank would be at least a standard 3 ft tank. I'd obviously have to get the light, filter, heater etc. I was going to go with a gravel or sand bottom. No plants, just rocks and caves and pots.
Anybody have any ideas? Or know of any good websites that could help me?
Thank you
I forgot to say - the water where I am is naturally a PH of 8 and pretty hard. I have read this is good for Africans. Is this right?

I would probably head for Peacocks in a tank like that....Considered s/w?

I've heard that salt water is really hard and as I'm just learning more about fish I don't think I'm experienced enough for it yet. Though the tanks I've seen are gorgeous!!!!
I found this picture online, does anyone know the type of fish? I think the two yellow ones are electric yellows, yes?

Yea and the bottom left is peacocks. S/W isn't hard except in setting up and once it is set up (if you do a reef) it requires very little care and is much easier than a f/w tank.

Ohhh ok well I'll have a read of some info on starting a SW tank. The SW fish are so colourful too!!!!
Do Peacocks go ok with the Mbunas? From this pic I would say yes but I'm learning to ask before I assume!!

Most people say no. I did with no trouble but that is just my experience.
