Ok so when i bought my 18 gallon the other night it came with a cheesy little light lid, the florecents are ok but i wanted some moon lights. Plus as i have mentioned before i dont have anything to do and i stay bored. so i went to walmart and bought some more fake plants and then started getting creative. enjoy.
List of supplies:
2 Blue LED Night Automatic Night lights (no timer needed) $2.87 apiece

1 Mini powerstrip $4.44
1 Multiple outlet extension cord $2.84
1 roll double sided tap $2.57
Electrical Tape - had on hand
First i took my light hood off and sized things up... this DIY will completely depend on weather or not you have enough room in your hood to mount the night lights, and all hoods are gonna be alittle diff so this may not work out for you.
Next I splash proofed my mini power strip by wrapping it with electrical tape and plug in one of my night lights. I then wrapped some tap around the night light to make sure it didnt work its way out of the plug.

Next i figured out how i wanted to mount this side. On mine it ended up wedging in and i didnt have to use any tape to hold it. I took the extra wire and folded it up and used the wire tie that came with it to tie it together.
Next i moved on to the other side. I pluged in my mini power strip into my extension cord. I then added my second night light and and tapped it all up again to provide some splash proof and to add some sturdiness to it all.(careful not to cover up the little automatic light sensor on the night light)

This side was alittle more tricky to mount due to the mini power strip being plugged into it. the best thing about this all being under the hood is it doesnt have to be pretty. I used 4 small squares of double sided tape and i also slightly bent the metal light reflector on the hood to hold the night light in place.
Here is the finished product. I wish i could show you what it looked like with it on.... its great but it wont show up on the camera, but i guess thats the point of a moon light... just barely enough light to see in a dark room.

*****note if your tank does not have a full cover between the light hood and the water this is not for you!!!!!
