View Full Version : Can anyone help me ID this fish

I know it is an african cichlid, but not sure what one!! any help would be greatly appreciated it. I have had him/her for about 2 months now and quite a character

I don't know but that is a nice pick...put it in the gallery after it is identified :)

He/she is quite a character -- actually comes to the glass when i come over with the camera -- think he/she actually enjoys it!! hahaha I call him the King of the tank as he rules the tank for sure!!!

Mbuna, about all you can or need to know. Looks like an OB of some sort, but I haven't seen one whose spots match normal barring so well. Most likely a hybrid, which has to be assumed in all cases unless it is KNOWN known.

This fish is so neat looking. I love the tail!
I copied the pic and ask some cichlid people if they could help. Hope you don't mind.

It's concluded that it's a hybrid and looks like it could be a cross between a Labeotropheus and a Metriaclima zebra. You can never be 100% sure.

At first they thought an OB peacock was in the mix too, like others here, but when the wide snout was noticed, it was agreed that it looks like Labeotropheus x Metriaclima zebra.

Like was said before, with hybrids you can't be 100% sure but it's obvious you got a really gorgeous fish.

Thank you everyone for helping ID this guy!! I must admit he is my all time favorite -- he has personality plus!! When I get out the camera I swear he is posing!! LOL He is a bit aggressive, but not really mean. He makes sure he is the first to get something to eat and then the rest are allowed to eat!!! LOL I call him my King -- the King of the Tank!!!
