Awright, I really went and did it guys. I freed up part of my day to go to the fish store today, planning to get the labs and powder blues and the used sponge filter. Thats when I saw it, a 180 gallon 72x24x24 sitting there calling my name. I couldn't resist, I bought it. I will go back and pick it up early next week and build a really big cichlid tank from the ground up, still getting powder blues and labs when it is done. The 46 gallon bow front will now be a tropical fish tank, I got the used sponge and some harlequin rasboras and neon tetras to share the tank with the betta. When my cichlid tank is done I will move the sponge and one of my emperor 400's to the big tank and have my biological filter. Man this stuff is addictive.

180 gallons huh? Kinda small for a cichlid tank, don't you think? Sounds like you need something more like 300 gallon.

WOW ! I'm soooo jealous. Wish I had the room for a tank that big. Can't wait to see pics. You're gonna have a ball stocking it.

Dude...I would totally make it a Frontosa tank with about 8 of them. They'll get huge and they're like having puppies. They'll eat out of your hand.

The Wedge, I gotta think about that, brother.

One thing about Front's: they will pay for themselves, the tank, and then some after they start breeding. I recently attended a meeting of the CCA (local club) where the guest speaker gave a presentation on building a high-tech, low-maintenance fishroom. His was funded (more then a couple thousand $$$ worth) by a breeding group of Frontosa.
If I had room for the tank (won't fit through the basement door past the furnace) I'd be doing it myself. One day, when I have a bigger house though...

That's a nice big tank... MTS strikes early. LOL

Fronts are cool... do some research on them. The ones in the lfs are almost always Burundi (from the north part of the lake). If you're lucky you can find variants from Burundi all the way down to Zambia.... the further south, the more distinct the blue gets. For instance.... Salor has a Zaire variant from Kitumba I which is from the south west coast of Lake Tanganyika and they are gorgeous. (I'm jealous about that). LOL
