We got ours. There are going to be a lot of unhappy people in this country when they get it though. The way it was sold to us made it seem like the less you made the more you would get, it's the exact opposite. The more you make (up to the cut off point) the more you get.

You're right. I get back $300. Others with more income get $400.....filing single.

A one time rebate, separate from the income tax refund, we are getting from the US government. It is meant to put more money into the economy to try to help boost it.

and secretly all its going to do is go into gas tanks! I'm saving mine, its going into a 6-month cd so after i have to pay taxes on it next april I'll almost break even. Mine doesnt get sent out until June 20th. They go by the last 2 digits of your social security number.

SkinnyChicken

That's very nice of them ... I'll go check my family tree and see if I have a distant US uncle so I can claim mine :)

Wait until they put the tax up on water ... then you'll be glad of it !

after i have to pay taxes on it next april

Apparently that's not the case. I got my letter from the IRS today and in their letter it says You will not be required to report the amount of your stimulus payment as taxable income on your 2008 federal income tax return.

So that's one piece of good news.

My parents got theirs, we haven't got ours yet, but every last penny of it will be going toward paying off bills. Most specifically this mouth full of teeth that has cost us so much money. Boooooo to dentists.

I just checked the irs website and we won't be getting ours till July 11th. Holy crap thats a long time. lol

sandy_n
05-13-2008, 05:30 AM
I qualify for it according to the guidelines but when I go to the irs site and do the configuration to see how much I'll get back it says I don't qualify. So I don't know if I'm waiting or not.

It makes much more of difference if you are a couple or claim dependents. +300$ per dependent.

If you ask me it should be an automatic $600, by making the cutoff 45,000 per year instead of 90,000. If you make 90,000 600 isnt anything.

Sounds nice ... but for those not on your side of the Atlantic ... what the hell is one?

Its a government tax refund check (in addition to our yearly tax refunds), bc of our economy being so horrible right now. They go off of your income and filing status and then if you have children or not and the most you can get is either $2100 or $2400. Cant remember.

Got ours, but then I had to fight the ex for my part bc this year was our last year filing married joint return. He decided he wanted to buy a new tv and didnt want to give me any. I put a stop to that one FAST!!!

Ellen4God
05-13-2008, 04:03 PM
Well, I don't get one as my parents wanted to squeeze out one last year of claiming me as a dependent...blah! So, they get my share.

Still waiting for May 2nd to arrive.........My government would never make a mistake or break a promise so my calendar must be wrong.

...It WAS to go out in 2008 right?

Lady Hobbs
05-13-2008, 04:52 PM
First of all, the calendar that was set up telling everyone when they could receive their payment was incorrect according to what I've been reading on their gov website. The stimulous will be mailed "about a month" after your 1040 was processed. To give everyone a schedule was a wrong move to start with when the gov has no idea of when your 1040 was actually processed.

According to the Gov. Its supposed to have to do with ur SSN, the last number in it or last two, something like that. My grandmother got hers already, and it was actually there they day it was supposed to be. But if you dont have direct deposit, it could be ages. Thats the basic run-down i got from various sources, if the schedule is correct i will have mine on friday, and if not you know you guys will hear about it :14:

Lady Hobbs
05-13-2008, 05:01 PM
Those with lower numbers are claimed to get their payments first. My numbers are 00.........can't get any lower than that. The chart states my payment was due on or before May 2. That's why the chart doesn't work. It depends on when you filed and so their stupid chart is not really valid.

I filed a month ago so who knows.

Wild Turkey
05-13-2008, 05:02 PM

05-13-2008, 05:05 PM
well and it depends on if you got paid your return with direct deposit or by check. If it was check you wont see anything til end of may beginning/mid june. But People with Direct Deposit are getting theres already (here in california anyways)

Yea thats what i was saying, i heard something like that but just by word of mouth, we are pretty much last in line with SSN so ours should drop right into our account on friday. If you didnt do direct deposit i heard june as well

Right, we're in the may 16th bracket of direct deposit. Did you do direct deposit when you filed ur taxes hobbs?

Lady Hobbs
05-13-2008, 06:11 PM
Yupper. According to chart, it should have been here the 2nd or before. But when checking and reading on it, it actually goes by when your 1040 was processed which is why this schedule is not correct.

Personally - I think if I could receive one, which I can't since my parents snagged the whole dependent thing again this year, I would just be happy that they were doing this in the first place. It may be inconvenient for them to send it later than expected, but come on. Should we be fuming over free money?

RainMan
05-13-2008, 06:15 PM
My last 2 of my ss# just made it in the first batch... DirectDeposit on May 2nd. My fiance was in the first batch too and received a check on the 9th. We both filed taxes the same way using TurboTax and direct depost. Now that was a little strange.

No one is fuming over free money. We are just wondering why it's posted everywhere when it will come and it doesn't come when stated. Some of us have bills, girl!

LOL

Some of us actually don't have moms and dads to buy our gas and groceries!! You lucky girl, you.

Oh, I understand that. :) I didn't mean to sound brattish. I know I'm fortunate to still be living at home. I do have bills that I pay and gas to buy, but of course it isn't what everyone else has on their plate. That'll come in the next year or two...yeehaa!

There's nothing like our government borrowing money from China and trying to tell us to spend it on buying goods from China. Who wins here?

Of course the reasonable thing to do is to pay debt or save it, but that wouldn't be helping stimulate the economy now would it?

My gf got hers on Friday, but she had it DD. I won't get mine until July 12th.

I ended up owing the IRS 601...I should have made them a deal to just pay them a buck and kept the stimulus package.

Do you expect a country already 9.1 trillion dollars in debt to just print more money? That would lead to worse inflation. So we borrow money, aka China invests money into the US.

Hmm, and just which government is YOURS? If they're actually that good, I may secede from the union.:hmm3grin2orange:
Then again, the U.S. Government would probably send the FBI around to investigate/eliminate the situation...:18:

The list said I should get my check on the 9th and by 7:45 am on the 9th when I checked my online banking it showed the check as being deposited already. I only got 600 though. 300 for me and 300 for my son. I got mine when the list said I would and my friend got hers when she was supposed to. I file my taxes right away though each year.....I don't like to put them off, usually I am getting my refund back before most people have even filed theirs.

Checking online it says you will get your check "about" 6 weeks after your income tax return. That's why that schedule is confusing.

Checks are issued Mon, Tues, Wed, and Fri. None on Thursdays. I also see the "rapid refunds" are getting theirs by check instead of direct deposits. They are saying lots of things they didn't say in the beginning which has lead to much confusion.

my child support comes so irregularly that i kinda thought there would be confusion and chaos with this stimulus check thingy too. one time they sent my ex husbands checks for a straight month to a kid that wasn't even his....hahaha he was mad but he is better now that he is only $1200 behind instead of the $3,000 he started out being behind lol i will just keep checkin the mail to see when mine comes

holly crap!!! one time he was close to going to jail so he started sending a dollar a month it kept him out of jail but when i was done screaming at him i bet he wished he was in jail lol....he pays now cause his wife makes him and when he doesn't pay i tell him what he needs and he somehow gets it...decided a long time ago not to be bitter about the child support though it got me no where and usually got me in a fight with the ex i just go with the flow now...he works at McDonalds and Sonic now so i guess he is being punished enough lol....it is a step up from when i was pregnant (at 15) and he worked at taco bell lol

Anything that leads to better relationships with communist countries is fine by me, especially if i get money out of the deal! I dont see why anyone would complain about having a little bit of their tax money returned to them for no reason.

As for the debt, tell me who we owe 9.1 trillion to? No one, no one is ever gonna come knocking on the U.S.'s door looking for that money. Otherwise we would be much more worried about being in "debt" if thats really what you want to call it. If you ask me the figure of 9.1 trillion can only be used to describe how much money we have dumped into ourselves, our country. At this point it looks like a pretty good investment, especially since its one we cant loose. 9.1tril is basically net loss for our government, but if your government is making money off you, that would be better? No, basically it shows the government spends more on "us" than it takes back from us in taxes. A good thing.

I've got another 5 weeks to wait for a check (according to the schedule.) I'm not a fan of direct deposit. The government doesn't need direct access to my bank account, the banks themselves make enough mistakes.

I seem to remember someone asking about H&R block, so i figured id post this.

Didnt get the direct deposit today. Heres why:

"If filing or preparation fees were deducted from your 2007 Refund or you received a rapid refund, you will be receiving a check instead of a direct deposit."

Hope this helps explain why some people didnt get theirs yet. Frustrating and stupid yes, but you cant fight city hall.

Just a quick note to everyone getting DIRECT DEPOSIT--

MAKE SURE ITS YOUR MONEY FIRST BEFORE SPENDING!!! They announced on the news that 1,500 checks were deposited in the wrong bank accounts. If anyone spends this money without it being theirs, they are obligated to pay it back immediately! Just a forewarning!! :)

On a good note--

Happy Spending Everyone! :) lol

Sure sounds like the way we do things when we can't even deposit checks into the correct accounts.
