My discus started to develop a little white coloration on his/her pectoral fins and slightly on the caudal fin(tail). Suspecting damage and a possible fungus attack I pulled him out and put him in a bare 10g hospital tank and started treating with Melafix.

Does this look like a reaction to the medication?

A possible injury from being netted?

Any help would be enormously appreciated.

DON'T USE MELAFIX!!!

I had a major issue using melafix. It caused a white fungus and what looked like cracking on my fish. The melafix has something that doesn't react well with their biological coat.

You need to change all the water and dose the tank with Maracyn I & II. You may have a created a fungal infection with the dosing of melafix.

I had a problem with one of my fish having some damage marks on him... dosed my tank with melafix and EVERYTHING went to hell. 3 of my 6 discus developed a fungus and one had it so bad that it basically ate away at him. The infection took a piece the size of my thumb out of the fish, and I thought he wasn't going to make.

Since you have a a small tank and you singled it out you shouldn't have to spend to much on the medication. I dosed a 75 gallon tank and it was expensive!!

If you can buy some bio-coat to supplement the water after your medication cycle it will help the fish heal and rebuild the damaged area.

I was told to add about a 1/4 dose of aquarium salt just to help keep the wounds clean and from getting worse. Add a little more water conditioner to the water. I would suggest using "tap water conditioner" which is stronger than just stress coat, that is if you are not using RO water.

Goodluck!!

Thanks SpyderSpy6 !

The Melafix is in the trash, the water changed and the Maracyn is in.

His color is much lighter, fins high and is looking around for something to eat. Good signs.

Thanks again, I owe ya.

Not a problem... I had that happen to my fish and it may have been one of the most stressful few days of my fish tankin' life! :18:

I'm glad you were able to get it under control! I had to trial and error and it took about 2 days before I had the Maracyn dosed in my tank. Everything started getting better from there. I had the outbreak about 5 months ago... and my pigeon blood still has a tiny section of his fin missing, but has healed up for the most part. It's just a bad situation for the fish.

Don't be dissapointed if the water turns a brown color... it's suppose to.

I think you've caught it early enough that your little guys will make a full recovery!!
