I just noticed my filter has died, not sure how long it has been dead for. A day or two maybe.

I know I have to buy a new one but is there anything I will need to do before I introduce the new filter to the tank?

I checked the nitirite, ammonia and nitrate levels yesterday, they were bang on.

Thanks

Just rinse it out with water to get any dust or other particles out of it and stick on the tank. And rinse the media out too.

Thanks all, I went with the Tetra Whisper Internal Power Filter for 10-30 gal aquariums.

Been a while since I have had to buy a filter, 15 years. The one that just died came with the aquarium I got from my sister, it was less than 2 years old.

Are the internal filters the new way to go?

There were hardly any, what I call, old style filters at the lfs to choose from.
