You tank is beautiful!!! Do you use city water or well water? City water tends to leave deposits, depending on what is in the water.... My water is well water and switched to city water for tank only and now have similar deposits on my heater suction cups in both tanks. Yours looks to be more in spots but it could be due to deposits in your water. Is there a way you can scrub it off without removing the pieces.
Also the substrate you have...what is it by chance? It almost looks like a crushed shell type but I can see in the picture well enough for that to be.
Maybe that has someting to do with it?

The lighting is 6 54w T5.......a 10,000k, a 7500k,a 5500k a pink atinic, a blue atinic, a purple. I also have two 250w HQI MH that I dont use but they are left over from the reefing days. Has far as filtration I have a elos wetdry, with a H&S skimmer. the skimmer dont do alot for fresh water but I keep it for a air diffuser. If I didnt have the overflows in the tank Id run a fluval.
