Howdy!!! :c12:

I got some mopani driftwood today...$5.00 (go me) lol anyhow the directions said to soak it until the water doesn't stain dark anymore...well the water in the bucket is still clear and it has been in there for an hour...does it take a long time to stain the water or is it instant? I got the mopani because I was told that it doesn't leech like Malaysian, but then have heard others say it does? I am excited to figure out how to add this to my tank. I made a pvc cave thing but I don't like it so I am removing that and adding the wood.

Next ?

I bought some Flourish today.
Since I have 'low light' plants should I even bother? I was thinking about it after I bought it but I did get it for $4.00 for the 250ml bottle. (petsmart has it for $8.99 and Dr. Fosters catalog has it for $3.99 so petsmart price matched.) Also I have a little brown algae issue on the ludwigia leaves that I plan on wiping off but was told that the nutrients in the water are going to the brown algae and not the plants. Would the flourish contribute to the brown algae or help it go away? I looked all over for Florish excel but no one near me has it, should I get this instead? I can order through Dr. Fosters if need be.

Thanks

Boil the wood until it boils clear, then let it cool and not only will it not release anymore tannins into the water, but will sink when it previously floated :)

More fertilizer may increase ur brown algae, you should read the article ILMGB just put out on this subject, its a great write-up.

If it is in boiling water it will start to turn brown in 30 mins, and then you should boil it for 2 more hours. If it is just in cold water, it will take 2-3 days, and then it should sit for a week after that.

well it doesn't float at all.. I added did the cold water not the boiled water. I can go to a garage sale maybe next weekend to find an old stock pot that I can boil it in, I don't want to use my pots....they were a bit pricy and hubby would lets say KILL ME! lol I could boil the water and add it to the bucket every day? Would that do anything or just waste my time. lol

Turkey can you link me to where that article is? I can't seem to navigate and find it?
