Depends on the type. Most cichlids are durable and guppies are also durable.

I think zebra danios are, I had some a long time ago and they lived a long time. When I set up my first tank about 15 yrs ago that is what I cycled my tank with. Back then I didnt know anything about cycling a tank, I was told get 5 danios and in a few weeks add a couple more fish till I got what I wanted to have. It work back then but now we have more information on here.

They can also be gorgeous fish.

Yup, Zebra Danios are one of the toughest fish on the market. There's a reason they chose them for gene splicing in order to detect environmental toxins in waterways.
