I had a person in the lfs tell me that most betta's don't live as long in a tank, than they would in a bowl. She said in a tank most live about 2 years, and in a bowl 4-7. Has anyone ever heard this before?

I believe their life expectancy is only about 2 years either way.

pure crappity crap crap, the things that affect life expectancy are diet, stress levels, and the fishes genes. a fish living in a little bowl wont be as happy as one in a filtered and heated 5g with plants

well, I have mine in a 55 gal right now, and seems to love it, I think they look alot better being able to move.

Bull, pure bull. Any animal will do well with better living conditions. I can't think of any exception to that rule.

That does not follow logic, or science. That is like saying a beta would do better in a 1g bowl than it would in a 10g aquarium with lighting, live plants, and an HOB filter.

Pure bull. Max expected lifespan for a Betta is 4 years and most only live a year to 2 years in a bowl. I'venever heard of a 7 year old Betta splendens. There may be some members of the genus that live that long but B. splendens is not one of them.

As everyone said!:hmm3grin2orange:
Think of it : in the wild, B. splendens and co are living in rice paddies... That's not a bowl... That's a big area to live in.... So I don't think that a betta will live longer in a cup... or a bowl...:c2:
But one thing that often kill Betta is overfeeding and not enough exercise... That's gave them liver illness (yeah, don't know the real good name... sorry)...

Those kind of phrase is a sort of excuse from the lfs to justify the cup and so on...:c11:

bettas life span is about 2 years weather it be in a 5g or a 125g tank. Crazy ppl at the LFS are just tellin you lies!

lol it's like saying a guy cramped in a closet his whole life lives longer than a guy that gets out and exercise.

THat's what I figured, thanks all, either way he seems much happier in the tank, so he was going to be in there no matter what. It might be a short life, but it'd be a happy one.
