Well lo and behold I went home last night and my firemouth was dead - it was out of the blue as it seemed healthy and had been feeding. I have had trouble with my pH levels in that tank - i'd lost a few kribs but as soon as I added crushed coral and upped it slightly everyone seemed happy. I even added a Green Severum whom is very very happy and growing exceptionally fast.

I have noticed my convict stressed on and off - but that's prob when i go up to the tank, any thoughts cause I really loved that little guy.

Hard to tell, since it seemed fine just recently. Sorry for your loss :11:

So sorry to hear about your firemouth. It's hard to accept when a fish dies especially if they seemed healthy the last time you saw them.

Sorry for your loss.... and sorry I can't offer up any great wisdom. Other than it happens. Just keep trying your best.

So Sorry. This is the unfortunate aspect of fishkeeping we all have to deal with.

Could have been the severum. The severum and firemouths are not known as compatible.

You know I never once saw the firemouth and severum fight - but who knows. The pH was really low around 6.6 before I added the coral and then it got up to about 7.2 over a few days. I've not lost any other fish so it's rather weird, even my kribs that were dropping like flies before the coral seem much happier.

I now have a new green severum and boy is it growing fast - so one gorgeous gold one and the green - though they don't socialise much - my gold gourami hangs out with the gold severum - perhaps it thinks they match?!

Thanks everyone for your messages - I HATE losing fish.
