What is the best way to determine the sex of a jaguar cichlids? Thank you in advance.

Jaguars follow most cichlids in that the male is larger, more robust, has fin extensions on the dorsal and anal fin, has better coloration, etc.

also the female tends to have more of a blotchy "flower pattern" down her sides. if all else fails just look at the vent.

the stripe down the sides on a female is solid where as a males stripe is slightly broken up there is no real difference in fin size or coloration when you look at my three it is really difficult to tell the male from the females unless you look really closely at the stripe

The stripe can be broken on females too, as shown in the post above. Size can affect how well finnage and coloration can be used. Larger, very well-maintained jags will show more of a difference between the sexes than younger individuals or ones that have not always been in the best condition.

i agree. water quality and diet makes a huge difference in how jags (as well as most fish) look. i have seen many male/female pairs that other than size didnt look that much different. if you keep a jaguar cichlid in a pristine environment, you will be hugely rewarded!
