Curious to see how many people subscribe to aquarium magazines or at least buy them at the LFS.

I get them mainly for the pics, since you can get a lot of the articles online, but these pics are much better quality. :c3:
But of course I do read the articles.

I will pick up a Tropical Fish International maybe a couple of time per year and only If there's an article there that catches my eye. My take on these periodicals is, why pay for advertising? There is a lot of really good information on the internet that comes from forums like this. You just have to sift through all of the information and find out what works best for you and your fish.

One of my LFS does this thing, where you buy a magazine for like, $5, and then when you are done, you return it, and can exchange it for a new magazine for free.
I don't do it, but its still pretty cool.

My biggest problem with relying solely on the internet for information for this hobby, is that often times you get some bad info somewhere. The writers for Tropical Fish Hobbyist and Aquarium Fish International are all well respected hobbyists and professionals who have been in the hobby for a long time. When you get an aquascaper of the caliber of Takashi Amano writing for your magazine, you are bound to get great info that you know you can trust. With a magazine 99.9% of the time you can trust what the authors are saying, that's not the case with the internet. I've run into a lot of people on the internet who can make something sound really good, but in reality the info they are giving is way way off base or they apply it in way too broad of a spectrum.
Aquarium Fish International... i have been attached to it. It is a beg. but still has great info and articles.
I buy the first 3 most months, at the store...I should pic the one I like and just subscribe to it...be a lot cheaper...but as ILuvMyGoldBarb (lol...you need a shorter name!) says, you can't rely on internet info, so I prefer to rely on the info in print...
I also like the mags because I'm introduced to fish species I normally wouldn't come across...I get the latest trends (and ads - I actually read the ads)and it answers those odd questions I forget I have and that no one else has ever answered...:hmm3grin2orange:

I'd probably get them, but being in a place that's affraid of english ... english language periodicals are hard to find, and I don't put the effort into looking for them.
I suppose I could subscribe ... but I'm already two months behind on the hunting/fishing magazine!
LOL...afraid of English...I like that...:laugh1blue:

Rue, ILMGB is what I've seen for ILuvMyGoldBarb. Any who, I get Aquarium Fish International. It's what got me started on the notion that I must do a lot of research before setting up my 75g planted tank, and introduced me to my first favorite tropical fish, the harlequin rasbora.

I get AFI and just recently started to receive FAMA. I pretty much read each article and will usually re-read the magazine later if I have extra time. There's articles that have changed my mind about many thing I've heard or read on the internet.
One of the most interesting ones I've read about lately was the introduction of the patch reef tanks instead of the "Fruit Stand" look, which I totally understand. I was really impressed with that article.
The one thing I'm really glad is that Patricia Knight changed her picture in the introduction article of each AFI. That old one had that bad hair do and had nothing going for her at all.
Also, I love having it portable. Most of my magazines are at work in my locker.
Yes...that patch reef article was inspiring...
