Of my 4 juvie E. Y. Labs none of them have black on their ventral side. Does this mean they are all female most likely? They are around 2.5 inches long. I saw some from the same batch that have black on their ventral side. Does this mean anything. The dorsal stripe is there.

I really don't think black on the ventral has anything to do with them being male or female.

All of my males have black on the ventral fin and the females don't. I personally haven't seen a female with it.

That is one possible method of sexing them, the other way to be 100% positive on them is to vent them.

From what I have read that can differentiate based on the exact population they are from.

It means you flip the fish over and examine the vent. They all have 2 holes behind the anal fin. On a female the vent and the anus are roughly the same size. On males the anus is the larger of the 2 holes.
