After I broke my diffusor last weekend, I had to invent something to replace it. My DIY diffusor is as good as the one I bought and simple to make:
Just squeeze as much filtersponge as you can into a tube (the more sponge, the smaller the bubbles). Cut away the rest of the sponge, so that you have it completely in the tube. Then install it into the tank with the opening of the tube watching the water surface.
If you have done it well, there shoul emerge very tiny bubbles of CO2.

Cool! So it is basically the same as an airstone?

What I do is attach a suction cup to a plastic bottle top and stik it to the tank wall. Then I add the tubing under it so the bubble are trapped in the bottle top, and are foced to dissolve into the water.

Yes, my diffusor is like an airstone, but it produces very tiny bubbles. My other airstone makes bigger ones.

The idea with the bottle is great as well, but it would be too big for my little (12 ltr.) tank. The diffusor is really small, only problem is that the tube is green, so it is not so easy to hide...
