Hey everyone, just joined this forum today after reading through some of the articles on the site (very informative and practical). A bit about me: I'm from Trinidad (located in the Caribbean), have had an aquarium for the last 14 years but never really had the time or money to really pursue fishkeeping in the way I wanted to because of being in school. I've recently graduated, am working now and acquired a much larger aquarium (for free!!!) so I'm in the process of building it up to be my dream aquarium. My old one I've decided to use for breeding purposes, particularly breeding the dwarf gourami. I started a blog on here about how I'm going about the breeding and setting up of my new community tank. Right now it's pretty bare save for some live plants. Each month I'll buy decoration for it. Actually keeping tropical freshwater fishes in a tropical country is great because I can ignore all the stuff about heaters and water temperature! In my country we have a huge abundance of guppies, mollies, gouramies, angels, oscars etc. I believe the guppy was actually discovered here. Some species are harder to obtain than others (I've never seen a live chocolate gourami) and some are just way too expensive (a discus goes for about a hundred dollars plus). Anyway, feel free to check out my aquarium blog, offer me advice since I've never done breeding before. Hope we can all be friends.

A[Only Registered Users Can See Links.]!!! I'm so jealous! I can't tell you how much I've spent on heating over the years, and free fish, especially the oscars and angels, wow that would be amazing!!! Can you just jump into a boat and fish for oscars, or net angels in a river, or is it more difficult than that? So jealous!
Well anyway, welcome to AC!
I went to Trinidad once before, you have a beautiful country!

Thanks for all the warm welcomes! It feels really great. When I wrote about the popular fish here, I meant they were popular in the petstores! Lol! I think there was a misunderstanding because there's not that many fish in our rivers anymore due to alot of pollution etc. I guess in the 'undiscovered' rivers in the forested parts there would be more of the wild fish though... Sometimes you might find some fish in drains, especially when it rains alot and floods. Have no clue how they would wind up in the drains (alive) nor what kind they are.
