Beautiful!

I'd love to have one, but we really don't have the environment...

i love my long neck turtles. i have three in a tank at the moment, bout to start on an outdoor pond for them in the next few weeks. ill post pics as im doing it. i have two males and a female, and very lucky to have a pair of them breeding (hence the new pond and land area, in the hope of successfully incubating the eggs).

will do, im thinking i may take step by step photos of the enclosed area, like the before shot, during shot and the final product shot. lol i cant wait to get started on it actually. and the plus to it all is i get my 4 ft tank empty again, i can stock another tank (thats all i need lol) :18:

i hear ya! i'm looking at setting up two more 75's this month and a 375-500 within the year. do you have any pics of your turtles at all? i'd still like to see them.

My cousin loves tortoises, he has a bunch. He has a 4" indian star, a few small red foots, one or two big redfoots, one or two big yellow foots, a pancake, a medium leopard, and has had sulcattas. He just got rid of his last one that was probably 15" or so.

He makes his own enclusures, doesn't use tank. He will make them with plywood and 2x4s. He uses 1' high walls on the smaller ones and taller walls for the larger ones. This is the cheapest way to get them tons of needed space. I have seen online layouts similar to this with multiple levels connected with ramps. I would not use aquariums for them unless they are babies.

this sounds exactly like what we built for ours. our indoor enclosure is
6' x 6' x 1'tall. then we suspended two UV Light fixtures from the ceiling. it works very well.

The best light for them are mercury vapor bulbs that provide high intensity UVB in the same bulb as the heat. My cousin uses PowerSuns from Zoo Med. Same is true for other high light needing reptiles like bearded dragons and water turtles.

What do you feed?

What do you feed?

during the winter months they eat various hays, Turnip greens, collard greens, Dandelion greens, prickly pear cactus, and a few treats here and there. in the summer he either grazes outside or we bring in wild grasses and weeds (this is for the Sulcata). the redfoot has a seperate enclosure and feeding regimen.

Any pelleted foods?

Any pelleted foods?

for the Redfoot yes...the Sulcata no. most pelleted foods i have found either had too high of protien or too many fillers in them.

Mazuri is supposed to be really good. Zoo Med just came out with two new tortoise foods designed specifically for grassland and the other for forest tortoises. Too much protein may be diluted with the rest of the diet too though.

this is berry my female.
ive just had my turtles inside over the summer months as my whole neighbourhood has had many snakes out in their yards this season. id rather not go to feed turtles and encounter a venomous tiger snake instead lol. we had a 1.2 metre one removed from our shed not even a month ago!!!!!

I'd loved to have one, but I have a adult Ornate Box Turtle living in the cage outside which is pretty cool and I have a Red Ear Slider and Diamondback Terrapin both living in my garden pond which is awesome!

i have looked into most of them, but they still had too many fillers and crap in them for me to include them in his diet. i figure if it needs to be diluted, then why feed it? i havent looked into the newer zoo med pellets yet. i'll have to do that sometime. there is one company that has a pelleted food that seemed very healthy, but i cant think of it off the top of my head. i'll get back to you about that one. thanks for the suggestions.

Edit: ahhh...here it is. we have used several of the products in the past and they seem great!

What fillers?
Where did you get information on what a tortoise diet should and should not have in it?
Ever emailed the companies about their products and asked why certain ingredients are in there?
