My cousin ate my fish......

No seriously.

My little cousin Noah (1 1/2) came over today the first thing he did was run up to my 55g and watch my fishies. I open the lid, lift him up and let him feed the fish a couple pellets, and before I can stop him he scoops a platy and puts it right in his mouth (she was fat and pregnant, very slow moving). Swallowed, gone like that.

Well, despite the initial reaction of what the @&^$%!!!, I have stopped worrying about my poor little platy and started worrying about my cousin.

The fish was perfectly healthy at the time of consumption, and I haven't medicated the tank in a long time, but should I be worried? Is the any disease or parasite he could pick up? He didn't choke or anything, it went right down.

And yes, I know, this was right after my post of the Darwin award guy dying form eating a fish, so I am a little concerned.

Hopefully no malachate green residue in the tank.... I would call poision control and see. I have no idea of a good answer here and definetely don't want to play doctor.... Sorry Nick.... hope everything works out...

Well, there was no malachite green, thankfully. He seems alright....do you think I should call anybody just in case?

You could call his doctor or call the er of a children's hospital and ask them or as jbeining said try poison control. I think everything should be ok but I'm sure you'll feel better hearing it from someone who has more expertise in that area. Such a typical toddler...everything goes in the mouth! Keep us posted please.

He ingests far worse things just during a normal day of play.

I wouldn't worry. His digestive system will look after it.

Tell his mother though...she owes you a platy...

He will be fine. The only thing that could be a problem is if the fish had TBC (very very unlikely) as that could be transmitted to the child. I wouldn´t worry about this as the chance for this is very very very very .......... small.

Well, sorry about your loss, and the possible loss of a million little platy friends. :(
I hope Noah is okay.
Did you explain to him about not-to eat the fish? lol.

He'll be fine.

Didn't you ever bite the head of a fish when you were a kid? I though it was a right of passage or something .... guess things are different up north.

Try giving him a piece of sushi, see if he's developped a taste for raw fish?

I am so gald I am not a toddler anymore. I (thank GOD) don't remember what I ate back then but almost can guarantee not a fish head. yuckkkkk makin my skin crawl!!!

I hope your cousin is doing ok. If he isn't showing any ill effect i would assume he is fine, let the momma know just in case he developes a reaction. Are ya suppose to give a kid sushi? I thought it was bad? lol Anyhow I don't eat sushi so I wouldn't give it either. lmao
