I just tore apart my tank (or, as much as I could, with the fish still in it). I just got sick of it looking disgusting (the story on that to come later). When I pulled out one of the two fake log decorations, it smelled foul. I suppose it could be from food stuck in the bottom, although one of my plants that I ripped out smelled similar and everything in the tank is covered in blackish/brownish/greenish algae.
Anyway, the source of the smell notwithstanding, I want to clean the decoration before I put it back in the tank. I've already tried plain water, but the algae is not budging. I know chemicals+fish tank=bad, but is there ANYTHING I can use to scrub this thing clean?
(I actually have two, but the second log is going to have to stay disgusting, because it is firmly attached to a moderately large java fern...)
