Looks like a crown ruby ram I believe they are a morphed bolivian ram. They had a couple at a local fish store I went to last week I wanted to buy them and I almost did, very nice fish.

It's a male Bolivian Ram - Microgeophagus altispinosa

Spoil him a bit with good food and he should nicely color up.. at the moment he is under nourished and stressed

Thanks! I have two of these and when I get my camera fixed i will post pics of both. I hope the other is a female! how can I tell?

Male Bolivians are usually big and have larger top fins that are more pointed. The females have less coloration, sometimes a small purple dot on their belly and rounded fins. They are hard to sex when small until they start to color and become more dimorphic as they grow. The males will show more of the color also as they grow. Oh and dorsal fins first few spikes are usually longer on the male... good luck. Hope this helps a little...

From what I understand, the sexual dimorphism of bolivian rams is very slight. But jbeining's description was about the best I have ever seen. I had two at one point. But was never able to determine if I had male or female.

IME, the only reliable way to sex bolivians is by thei breeding tube. On the male, it will be smaller and less pointed, and on the female, it will be larger an blunt. PLus, males willd evelop long fin extensions, while females will develop little, if any extensions.
