has anyone seen this film? i would not recommend it for the faint of heart because there is a lot of gore in it. but it is about long line fishing and the shark fin trade. apparently in the past two decades the shark population has dropped 90%. sharks are totally unprotected. and people hunt them, cut off their fins and throw them back in the ocean alive, forcing them to die of suffocation. i guess i'd like to hear thoughts on the matter. it made me very upset after i saw it. even though the narrator is a total narcissus.

No, I haven't seen it but i'm glad you brought it up....I don't like watching stuff like this, but I do anyway b/c it brings awareness. I'll have to check it out. Thanks.

I will have to check this out too... I love sharks and they are important part of the ocean... they are just smart enough to figure out we are easy targets on the beach of some shoars!

sharks actually kill very few people. there is only something like 10 shark attacks a year. lions and tigers kill many more people and they are protected.

There will always be shark attacks but I think that is no reason to kill or harm them off. We are in their homes, regardless of how close we are to shore, we're still in their water and are fair game. I think people who hate sharks b/c of the attacks need to recheck what they're doing. You want a 100% guarantee of not getting attacked, stay out of the water. lol

the video is really good, but really it is very graphic. they show baby seals being clubbed and hundreds of sharks getting killed.

The sharks aren't being killed because they kill humans, their fins are being harvested so they can be dried out for "Shark Fin Soup", an Eastern delicacy.

I'm a conservationist so this frustrates me...Jaws hurt the sharks reputation forever. Over 75% of the sharks that are killed are from shark hunters in the southern hemisphere near Africa and from Eastern Asia where they use the fins as shark fin soup which is a huge delicousy.....

Yrah, I'm always frustrate about people killing sharks...
I lived in Africa, near the Atlantic Ocean... And I can say that I'm really afraid of sharks... When I was a kid, I loose a friend... He drown, and we never seen him again... We all knew why... But even after that I can't feel like killing sharks...
First they're not killing machine... They don't target human!
There's no signals in their head who says "human=food"... But when you're on a surf, or when you "relieve" yourself in the water, and when you're bleeding... Then you can become a target...

I'm horrified because those people use the fear of the public, and their ignorance to justified their killing....

Sharks kill to eat... Human in this case, kill to kill, and to have pleasure... We know we kill something that we don't really need, but nonetheless, we kill it! :c11:

Ok, I'm stopping now... sorry for the ranting.:14:

totally acurate, they are not being killed because they are killers, they are bring killed for their fins (which are worth more then gold) they are not protected whatsoever because they have a reputation as people killers and most people could care less about the ecological repercussions.

peeing in the water is not a reason for sharks to attack humans. having an open wound will definitely attract them though.

Yeah! I've checked this, since I've post it, and yeah, you're right...:thumb: But it was one of the many things divers and fishermen tell us, children, in Gabon. I'm sure they tried to prevent accident... But even now that I know it's not true, I'm pretty sure I won't do it!:hmm3grin2orange:

Agreed, and that's why it's so sad....
