I will be finishing my finals tomorrow, and Friday the 18th I will be heading out of town. I will not be returning for class for nearly a month. I do not have anyone that I really trust to take care of my fish, so they will be on their own. Does anyone have any experience with extended trips without outside help?

I have a 29 Gal. with 6 zebras, and 1 swordtail. I was thinking about getting an automatic feeder, but I am not sure which one I should get, and I am a little nervous about setting it up. I do not want to cut any more holes in my hood if I do not have to, and I am afraid that if I leave the lid up, that water will evaporate too quickly.

Also, I already have my light on a timer, and although a battery backed-up air pump would be nice, I just bought a new pump, and cannot splurge on another. If there is anything major that I am missing, please let me know. I know that this is not an optimal situation, but I will b nearly 200 miles away, and a round trip to check on my fish will cost me about $100. I might try to return about two weeks into it, but I am not sure.

Thank you everybody, you are all very helpful.

I'm in the same situation..

Going on holidays for 6 weeks in June..

That's why I'm waiting till I get back before I start my tank..

I'll have waited 6 months by then!!

But if you want something done right, do it yourself, I always say (learned this through bitter experience, I'm afraid)..

Hopefully you have a more reliable circle of friends.. LOL

One month is a LONG time to go without a top off, or water change. I would find someone to help you out, and fast.
