You're not alone... They absolutely freak me out too!!! Actually, all albino animals freaks me out. The whole pink eye and zero pigmentation is just weird to me!

......... Yes..

I actually like albinos. I had an albino rat once.

I never liked albino longfinned danios, but then i got one because she was beat up see 3rd pic. Now shes one of my favourite fish, she has so much charactor and personality. Also i love when she flares all her fins up to the males much like betta.

If you dont like albino cories see my cory pics ( 4th and 5th) albino bronze cory with normal eyes.

Only thing i cant stand are blind cave tetras! whats with having no eyes!

......... Yes..

why? they are only human just like you.. skin color in any thing should not be an issuse, an open mind is a good thing.

albino bronze cory with normal eyes.

Yeah, like i say, as long as the eyes are ok, I'm good.. :)

But I don't think that's a true albino..

By definition they have to red eyes (not sure why their eyes are red, but)..

Are am I talking out of my butt? :)

why? they are only human just like you..

Why are some people freaked out by clowns, or antique furniture?

They just are..

I'm not going to run screaming, or refuse to shake hands or anything..

But yeah, it will register..

Tolley

yeah its called cellophane or something albino but with normal eyes :11:

I gave a quick look at wikipedia on albinism, and it's seems that you can have various level of albinism in animals. It's a lack of melanin pigment in skin, hair and eyes... it can be complete or not... So, I suppose you can have some albino without red eyes.
As for the red color, it's because, without pigment in your iris, you'll see only the color of the blood in the little vessels in your eyes....

So for answering Doug question : no, I'm not affraid. I've grown up in Africa, and you can see a lot of albino people. First time I've saw someone like that, I was so surprise, I ask my mom for an explanation... Because I was so young, I was thinking the poor guy has been bleached!!!:c2: :11:.

Doug, you have seen too much horror movies "Those red, soulless eyes!! :(" ..... I'm sorry, i can't help myself and start laughing :hmm3grin2orange:.

No prob! I like being the smart one in class! :laugh1blue: :14:

As for weird looking fish, i have to admit that I wouldn't have blind cave tetra.... But, I think it's more about the fact their eyes are all cover up...
They're born with eyes and then they lost them, because it's begining to being slowly covered... That gives me creep...

@Peixes : I've sent you a pm ;o)

I just don't like the look. I'm really big on a natural appearance in an aquarium.

No clown puke, no funky decor, no plastic plants ... and no albino fish. It extends to other types of fish too. I don't like baloon mollies or the funky brain cancer goldfish.

doug z
04-15-2008, 07:15 PM
funky brain cancer goldfish

Yup, those and the puffy-eyed ones that look like their going to pop if the hit a sharp piece of grave..

They make me want to puke.. :(

I don't like albino cories, albino oscars are cool though.
As long as it doesn't loo really strange then I don't mind too much I guess, I care more about personality and the health of the fish rather the color morph.

The white body I can handle..

Those eyes, though..

Those red, soulless eyes!! :(

LOL, now that's funny! Right outta jaws. "Those black souless eyes. Like dolls eyes, until they roll back into the socket and turn white before they bite you."

I have seen albino people, and I think they are cool. Just regular people, living a regular life, or trying too.

I have albino cories in my tank, but that is about as far as my albino's go. I like tropical fish for their color, not the lack of it.

Right outta jaws.

!!

Spooky.. That's EXACTLY where I got that reference from!! LOL

Great minds.. :)

I don't like how this has turned into me being bigoted regarding albinos, or that I treat them as social lepers.. LOL

I'm not, and I don't..

I'm just sayin'..

The freak me out...

Nope it doesn't bother me... Although I prefer not to have albino as I like the natural colours of the fish. But I do agree that the red eyes are not nice. ;P

yup i am with Tolley on this one i like albinos too... They are unuiqe and still the same fish and brighten any aquarium up in my opinion!

The sad thing is though is that albino people freak me out.... I know its rude of me to say and i know its a defect and you cant help it but that pale white skin with wierd hair and red eyes that are allways 3/4 shut so they dont take into much light... That freaks me out there was an albino guy at Fred Meyers..... didnt so much freak me up but very very odd and i respect that he cant help it you know

I personally don't care for albinos, in fish anyways...I just much prefer to see the natural colors of the fish. That said...a while back I saw an albino boa constrictor (yellow & white) that was the coolest snake I ever saw :o)

My husband thinks I am weird because I never would let him get albino corys. The clear fish freak me out too - I think they are called glass fish. I don't want to see what they ate after they ate it!

Nope, doesn't matter to me. Albino cats are just adorable with their blue eyes:) Albino rabbits and rats are pretty common too... So I don't see how albino fish would be any different.

LosC
04-16-2008, 03:09 AM
I cant stand albino corys but albino plecos are cool.

doug z
04-16-2008, 03:12 AM
Yeah, I'm going to get an albino bristlenose (L-144a), so I can see him better against my black background..

But hopefully I can find one that will be more gold fish coloured, than white, and have normal eyes.. :)

lol, i started with 6, they bred, then i mass bred them and gave away some fry and sold some, it was a party of corys!

SkinnyChicken
04-16-2008, 03:47 AM
Mine don't so much party as picnic with the bristlenoses and kuhlis on occasion - and only when they can find them!

What we gonna call more than two corys ... Party Of Corys, Cacophony Of Corys, A Cory Rave ... or maybe a Star Trek themed 'Cory Collective' ... we are the Cory, prepare to be assimilated ...

:)

doug z

If it has normally coloured eyes then it's not an albino. That would just be some mutation resulting in a different colour than normal.

If it has normally coloured eyes then it's not an albino.

That's what I thought, but I've since been informed (in this very thread) that in the animal kingdom there are degrees of albinoism..
