Im not a newb to keeping tanks, i just didnt know where else to but this. i have a 55 gallon african tank that is doing very well. my neighbor that just moved in was clearing the backyard of old riverrock that the last person that lived there had in the backyard, so i was wondering if i could put it in my tank. I was about to but then thought that they may have used pesticides on the yard and maybe they got on the rock. Can i soak the rock in something or pressure wash it maybe. I like the way it looks put i would rather my fish live, so if someone could help me that would be great.

I have put rocks from outside in my tank and they were fine. Rocks however will raise your PH. If you think they have pesticides on them try soaking them in really hot water for a while. Hot water usually gets rid of stuff like that on rocks.

run your rocks in hot water (or boil them if they are small enough). This will remove any traces of chemicals/infections etc. Then ensure to do a vinegar test to see if the rocks are safe for your tank.
