If you washed with tank water no problem, tap water will kill some of the bacteria

ty great I did wash with tap, butiful....
Sounds like you were just gunked up with...well, gunk. Cleaning it out restored the flow. You should be good now.
Tap water contains, sometimes, chemicals that will destroy beneficial bacteria. Not sure to what degree your water would act as such.

You should be fine now! Even if you clean out the filter you should have bacteria in the actual tank.

the filter actually contains over 90% of the bacteria, theres probably 7% on the gravel and 3% on decor
the tapwater probably killed of a chunk of bacteria, depends how much chlorine is in your water and other chemicals

Just watch your levels for an ammonia or nitrite spike. It may be very very small but you are likely to get one. When it happens just do a descent water change to control your levels... It will be very small if any. As long as you didn't scrub the filter media and rinse it for a long time. If you did watch your levels closely.

The exact thing happened to my 22g's filter, lol. A good cleaning/cartridge repplacement always does the trick. thumbs2:
