I have a 29 gallon setup that has 1 very tiny female in it at present time and I have another tiny female in a 1.5 gal. critter keeper. My question is can I go ahead and put the other female in the 29 with out much agression going on? I know there should be at least 4 but I want to put her where she can be in warmer water. If I don't can I put a small 25 watt heater in a 1.5 or even better I have a 3 gallon critter keeper I can put her in, would a 25 watt heater melt the plastic tank?
I just bought 3 females today, and put them in my 25g community tank...
I had 3 previously...no aggression...

I know a Betta keeper around were I live, and they say Females Betta can fight just like the males.. so that is what I was told..

females are fine together
kingmed, the heater wouldnt melt the plastic, might warp it a bit over time though, but i doubt it
Female bettas certainly can be aggressive. Depends on the strain and the breeding.
Breeders want aggressive, flaring males. But they also want docile females.
Aggression isn't sex-linked, therefore you can have aggressive females, since that's a trait being selected for.
However, females are also, in general, less aggressive than males...therefore females will mostly be okay together.
Hope that makes sense.:hmm3grin2orange:

To sum it all up: it depends on the individual personalities of each female betta.

the females are in the 29 together since Saturday, no aggression what's so ever, seems that they stay out of each others way. They'll get close and then mind their own buisness so I guess I was lucky to have two who will get along.
One thing I would do, is add floating plants...hornwort, Elodea. That helps provide cover and to establish little territories.

The last time I had female bettas was about 10 years ago. I had 2 females, they were purchased out of the same tank. Anyways I put them in a 10 or 15gal tank together, can't remember the size for sure, and they proceeded to try and kill each other. Luckily I was there watching them and I ended up having to separate them right away. I had previously had female bettas that got along fine. If you decide to keep a couple of them together, just be sure to watch them closely for a while and be ready to separate them if needed.

I think I read somewhere where it says that if your keeping females together that you should have at least 3 or more together in case there is any aggression. That way it is spread out instead of the females just picking on one particular fish.
