I was watching my Blue Mystery Snails one day and I noticed that he went over to a baby pond snail, and started eating on it!!! And yes he actually ate it! Not the shell, but the snail itself! He spit the shell out after he got done eating it! Are they supposed to do that or are they known to do it?

Lol. I've asked on 2 different forums and no one seems to know!!! My snails must be cannibals!!

I mean, they have enough food in the tank. But I don't care if they eat them! At least I won't have to sqiush them or get them out!!!

Yes they can eat other snails if they catch them. They seldom eat their own species.

Also if a snail dies they eat it.

hahaha! I would say anything they can catch is fair game to be food.

I've heard of this happening too, however I breed pond snails in the same tank that my mystery snail lives in, and it doesn't touch them or their eggs..

yup snails are scavengers and they will clean up everything from dead decaying to rotten food to i guess a live snail if hes hungry and the mystery snail does for sure beat a pond snail lol :D

Maybe that's why my pond snails are not out of control yet. Maybe my mystery snails are keeping them under control!!! As for in my other tanks, SHEEEESH they're all over the place!!!

Yea I knew they ate dead fish and plant matter, but not a live baby pond snail!!! I have another question. Do you think anyone would want to buy some pond snails? People that have puffers maybe?

Yeah, prolly. I think most people who need snails for their fish breed them themselves, but not everyone has room for an extra snail tank, so it's worth a try. Don't expect to get much for them tho...

Lol, I have so many in our pond that I'd probably make a decent amount selling them!!! Even if I sold them really really cheap!!!

Ive been on the lookout for some snails for my tanks for almost 2 months now. but looks like its not the right season of the year and none of the 4 LFS that I frequent have any snails. so I will need to wait for longer.

Anyways no tank clean up crew like a couple of snails.

I've gotten free pond snails from my lfs, sry to bust your bubble about selling them, but just some info, crayfish are good about eating them too.

Some pet stores however will not sell them OR give them to you. All I want to do is get them out of my tanks!!!
