I keep plucking away but since I just put the plants in, they start floating up if I barly touch them, put my hand in to get one snail and end up having to replant 3 plants.

Ahh man that sucks! Maybe you should just let the plant float for a bit while you pluck away at the snails!

the lettuce trick didn't work for me but i'll i had was iceberg lettuce which might i hear hold almost no nutrient values so they might not have been attracted to that.

Even if you wash your plants you'd have to do it so well since i don't think it's actual snails on them but their eggs which eventually hatch. Sure some snails make the trip but i have a feeling its more eggs.

get it under control fast with either the lettuce or squishing them or plan on getting a loach later on. Either one works.

there has been some babys and some medium sized ones, but I just looked in the tank and saw 3 right off the bat, I have a bad feeling about this.

'rent' 2 clown loaches from your lfs for a couple days, dont feed them. they'll get them all. or what i used to bait them was a piece of blanched cucumber. put it in a glass at the bottom and check it every couple hours. overnight is too long to wait, and they will have fed several times over and could possibly be away to reproduce again. the glass is for lifting out the cucumber and ridding it of the suckers without any falling off on the way out.

I'm probably being thick but what's the problem here? I have snails feeding on algae and keep 'm under control by trapping them. I've improvised something but you can even buy snail traps.
