Got these two about 1 week ago and they are looking good. The star looking one was super red at the store but quickly turned green in my tank but at least i'm seeing a LOT of new growth so thats good. I've got about 3-3.5wpg so it should do okay. Maybe even turn red sometime again. I did hear it needs iron but don't know what kind of plant it is.

The one in the corner for this one.

I i just got a kick out of this one. I know it's a val but it was the first to reach the top....kind the king of the tank i guess. Made quite a trip too(30" tank)

the leaves turning color are most likely a result of the plant adjusting to your water conditions. not sure about the plants, but the last one looks like some form of stargrass??? The middle one is some kind of crypt, not sure what kind of val, as they look similar, and they are hard to id until matured.

First one is Rotalla Roundifollia
The second one looks like the emersed form of a Crypt who's name escapes me right now.

EDIT: looks like Cryptocoryne lucens

wow check out this rotala

It would be so cool if mine grow tall enough to turn red again. It didn't even have roots when i bought it so the new growth at least means it's starting to do that and grow which i think is a good sign.

PV, if you look at my tank from last month's TOTM contest, or even in my gallery, there are 2 patches of Rotalla on the right side of that tank.

Rotalla is a fast grower. You may eventually come to curse the stuff. LOL It is a great plant, and if you want it to fill out, just remember, pruning will cause it to fill out a lot.

Yeah i remember you having some kind of reddish plant that looked really good. I figured since i upped my lighting i could at least grow a slightly red plant so we'll see what happens.

I don't want it to lose it's bottom leaves so i'll probably not trim it till it gets at least half way up the tank. Unless you think i should start it early.

Will the cuttings on this grow new roots?

With stem plants, clipping them does not encourage greater root growth it encourages more stems.

Yes they will. That is how stem plants are propagated.

yes, they will reroot, faster if you let the clippings float and you dose liquid ferts. Ready for a really good tip for increasing stem plants (as if they dont grow fast enough already). Take a stem plant, approx. 10-15 centimeters and put a plant weight on each end (top and bottom). lay it down and watch the new stems come up along the whole thing!

yeah i had a thread not to long ago about auxin and how it's some sort of hormone. We added it to a plant in one of my classes and ALL the lateral buds started growing and a small stem plant turned in to a massive bush.

I was hoping they made something like that for aquarium use but i don't think they do.

That second pic is definetly a cryptocoryne. I think wendtii, but not sure.
