Hi all,
Now Im all getting ready to cycle my tank. Thought it would be ok to have zebra danios as my cycling fish. But then a little color wont hurt right-how about adding one betta to this group? I would also have some plants in there. Its a 29 gal.
If a betta is not a good choice, I would stick to just the zebras and let the cycling complete.
Thanks.

not only will the zebras attack the bettas fins, bettas aren't really all that hardy... They could get very sick and could die from the water quality...

I'd agree with both Cocoa and Demi though although whilst my Bettas have been a bit on the soft side, I've neaver had them savaged by my Danios. I cycled by 80g with 5 zebras and being the hardy little bugers they are, never lost one and they are still zipping around at the speed of light. I love 'em :)
Just don't make the mistake I made of cycling recently ... [Only Registered Users Can See Links.]

I picked up some red minnows (can't remember the exact name) at Walmart for .28 each. Oh I think they are called rosey red minnows, I think so anyways---however I bought 5 of them and 4 zebras and they are in my 29 gal. and doing just fine. I don't like the minnows but for .28 I figured what the heck, I told my 5 and 8 year old girls here in a few weeks we are going to cook them up and eat them, they weren't very inthused about the subject. I like to spend as little money as possible especially if I think I'll loose it, however knowing my luck they'll live forever and I'll have to use them as fish bait this summer.

Thanks all for the advice...and I have stuck to just the zebras. Could not find the regular ones though so got myself a few of the glofish kind-red ones. As usual, they are all zipping around happily...really too fast man, at times Im not sure if thats because something is wrong with the water ;) And I have 3 amazon swords in too. Will add pics in the morning. These guys are just too fast :D Thanks everyone again...

The best thing to actually do is a fishless cycle. Consider cycling you're tank this way the next time you need to do so. There is information regarding it in the free e-book in the menu on the left. Glad they're doing alright!
