Anyone ever try a titanium heater? They are supposed to be indestructable... provide good heat... they go really high in wattage... have external thermostats... plus a safety device to turn off if they are exposed to air. I'm going this route for my 100gal unless someone tells me otherwise. Plus I have a lot of rock in my tank which makes me nervous when it comes to glass heaters.

What brands are the best?

Thanks!

Thanks for the responses so far. I really couldn't find any negative issues with them. I was also considering the undergravel cable heaters too. But, not sure that would be good for digging cichlids. The idea of not seeing the heater is appealing though.

Any first hand experiences?

I have 2 300w heaters in my 150gal tank, and just bought an 800w one for the 280. I have no complaints on the ones I'm using now, and all fingers pointed me to the 800w before I bought it. No complaints here!

Hey Tooch... who made yours? Is the thermostat all in one... or did you have to buy a separate one?

ummmm.... The 2 I have in my 150gal have the thermostat connected further down the cord. They are green boxes with a grey dial. I don't remember who made them.

The 800w one I had to actually buy the seperate thermostat it plugs into. I don't remember the brand, I'll check when I get home and get back to you.

I use Visitherm Stealth heaters in...I think 10 of the 13 tanks. Rock solid, zero problems.

They are really good heaters but are so strong they can break glass on aquariums. My buddies midas cichlid tail whipped one and it cracked one of his tanks. I guess I would say the only reason for a titanium heater would be for a really agressive fish and in that case just have it secured really good.
