View Full Version : Rumors and controversy (Read This)

There has been a lot of controversy around the forum these last few days which have been fueled by a lot of rumors. In this post I want to straighten them all out and then we can move on as friends.

The truth is that members as well as staff has made mistakes this last days, myself not excluded an din the heat of the moment things have been said that might not should have been said, other things have been misunderstood as saying something they weren't meant to say. If we peel all this away the facts are the following.

Mitcore made a mistake by creating an "ac" service without checking with me first. She soon after realized what she had done and sent me a pm saying that she was sorry and asking for my forgiveness, Something she did receive. She did go about this the wrong way and admits to that but it should also be said that she did to this because of her love of AC and because she wanted to contribute. She thought this was a good thing and was not aware of the negative aspects of keeping a voice server which understandable made her felt hurt by the reaction of the staff towards her new server. I later informed her about the downsides and she than had a better understanding of why the staff was upset by her starting the server without going through me. She once again apologized. We talked about it and found a solution that would minimize the negative effects but still give the members who wanted to chance to a chat with each other.

Mitcore later wanted to apologize to the rest of the forum as well and started a new thread which unfortunately was interpreted the wrong way and led to more controversy between different members as well as against mitcore herself. I know that Mitcore only had the best intentions in doing this and just wanted to say that she is sorry and ask everyone to forgive her for what happened. Unfortunately her very nice intentions was lost in the discussion that followed.

Now when I said what really happened I am going to address some of the rumors.
Mitcore has never been banned nor have banning her ever been on the table.
Mitcore is not being asked to leave or chased away. We all want her to stay and I have also personally done so. If she choose to leave us for a time or permanent it is a shame but her choice.
The moderators or hobbs does not have it in for Mitcore. But we re all people, and as people we have emotions that can get carried away. All parties might have said things they shouldn't have, either because of misunderstanding ( which I guess is how the banned myth got started) or heated feelings. This is however behind us and it is time to forget, forgive and move on. Anything else you might have heard about this is rumor and nothing to pay attention to. To avoid similar situation I ask, NO BEG, all of you to contact a mod or me if you hear a rumor to verify it before believing it.

It is now time for me to talk about the most important fact, the one thing no one should ever forget, about this whole mess. That fact is that everything that has been done on all sides in this mess has been done because the people doing it love this site.
Mitcore loves this site and tried to make it better. She love this site and its member so she wanted to say she was sorry. Here's is the most important thing to remember about mitcore, she loves this site.
Lady Hobbs loves this site and anything she does her is because she loves this site and want to keep it great. Here's is the most important thing to remember about hobbs, She loves this site.
the other mods love this site and everything they have done is because they love this site. Here's is the most important thing to remember about the other mods, they love this site.
Other members who in one way or another have been involved in discussion and stated their minds have done so because they love this site and they want to become ever better, regardless of which their point of view might have been. Here's is the most important thing to remember about the other members, they love this site.
I might have done a few mistakes in handling this, but once again that is only because I love this sight and want it to be as good as it can be and that all members should feel at home here. This entire mess is based on the fact that we all love this site and instead of focusing on what happened and any differences that might exist we should focus on that. We all love this site. That is all that really matters and what we should hold on to as we leave all this behind us.

I say lets all forgive any and all grudges we might carry and move forward.

I think everyone that agrees with this should post in this thread and let everyone know that they love mitcore, love Lady hobbs, love the staff and that they love the rest or the forum members and that everything else is behind us. All of us including mitcore, Hobbs and other staff need to hear that they are loved now.

I know that I still:
Love Mitcore!
Love Lady Hobbs
Love the rest of the staff
Love every other member on this forum.

(If anyone want to discuss anything surrounding this further please pm me. The public discussion ends here and new threads on the topic will be deleted as we need to forget and forgive. Feel the love)

What a wonderful post, William. I, too, thankfully missed all the drama and am still very much a newbie here, but Lady Hobbs was one of the first people to welcome me when I introduced myself and the warm, fuzzy feeling still lingers. I'd hate for anyone to leave over a misunderstanding, that would just be too sad.

I adore this site and can't even begin to voice my gratitude for the dedication it takes to put something like this up and keep it running. Kudos and Chapeau to everyone who contributes. :1luvu:

Not sure as to what I should post here, not even sure I want to post about this matter. I have seen the drama here, and, as with us humans, whenever you get a whole lot of people together, there will/has been miscommunication, even if intentions are good. The road to hell has been paved with good intentions.

I really don't know what to say, as I have seen it with other places, other chat forums, and know that it will blow over. People come, people go. That is a fact of life.

This is by far one of the best aquatic forums I have ever seen/known. I would like to keep it as such, an aquatic forum. There are times and places for everything. I come here to learn and express what I know about fish, and to share about the keeping of fish.

I will continue to be here, but as of now, I will absolutely positively not engage in controversial subject material. This will save me the headaches, and drama of this forum.

Fish keeping isn't really a hobby for me, it is a way of life.

Peace

Great post William. I've been here for only a short while and I really do love this place. It's because I love this place that I want to contribute to the betterment of it.
I think the key that was hit on by many, is that we are all people. That is a fact that is easy to forget in a faceless medium such as the internet. I may not know the faces or the people behind the screen names, but each is known to me by their contributions and for that each is greatly apprecitated. Contribution is not limited to giving answers. Every picture in the gallery adds to it. Every question asked adds to it. Every gift given every rep point given adds to the betterment of this site.
Thank you William
Thank you mods
Thank you fellow members

Being pretty new here I was only slightly aware of "something" going on. But like outlander said whenever there are a lot of people together there will be miscommunication...
It's very clear that everybody on the forum loves this site and they love to help. There is an undercurrent of "family" here that is absent from many forums that I've been on and I am grateful to be a member here and I am glad that William, as administrator, dealt with it and brought it out to the forum so that the rest of us were given the real facts instead of being left in the dark with nothing but rumors. Perhaps this is but just one of the reasons that this site stays so strong!

In Jan. 2008, I purchased my first aquarium. I was clueless about fish keeping and needed lots of help getting started.

This forum has taught me the importance of water testing (yeah API test kits) and water changes. I've learned about the most reliable heaters, filters, chemicals, medications and foods.

I have found AC members to be intelligent, gracious and tolerant of all my beginner questions. The wealth of knowledge here is unmatched.

I have very little to offer this list. I am a complete novice, but I'm certainly becoming a better aquarist with the information gained from AC.

I salute the moderators and members of this forum.

I thank you and my fish thank you!!!!:19:

William, thank you very much for stepping up and taking hold of a situation that could have gotten WAY out of hand. I see a great sense of leadership in you.

I think when these things arise (and they will), we all need to take a deep breath and choose our words wisely before we post emotionally. Also, getting the facts straight wouldn't hurt either. Take advantage of our hard working Mods and get the straight story before adding to the FUD.

I think the best point given by William was something he used as a theme for his post; it's all because we love the A.C.

A.C. Forever!!!

Keep it alive. Keep the respect!

I seemed to have missed this whole thing, just saw a few locked threads but didn't bother reading them, so I have no clue what happened.

After reading William's post though, I'd like to add my .02 cents...

The one thing that I love about this forum are the members, all of you. I feel at times, that certain members don't like me or are trying to ignore me because we disagree and I'm sure they feel the same, but thats part of the forum world.

But this has got to be one of the closest knit forums I've ever visited. Everyone gets into squabbles every once in awhile, but in the end its kiss and make up and no hard feelings. Which is great. If members don't post for a few days, there always seems to be a thread asking where so and so is. It's every member on this site (and the crew of course) that has made this site the way it is.

The aviation forum that I visit was sold to Demand Media last year and since they've taken over it's gone down the crapper. Anyone who posts a thread or reply stating they have a problem about the way the site is being run or criticizes the actions of the crew (who are completely incompetent) gets that post deleted and even banned for a couple of days. The "Site Related" forum is only viewable by members now and even making the slightest negative comment about the site will get you banned. So, I'm very glad to see that William and the crew here always have a very open mind and ears. Very hard to find these days.

So, kudos to William for such a great site and being a fantastic administrator. Kudos to the grew for all the hard work they put in. And kudos to Mitcore for having the sites best interests in her mind. And Kudos to all members for making this site what it is and being such good friends.
