I just got my fish and had some south american jack dempseys which i returned today...anyways the red zebras are right now the smallest but they even chased the jack dempseys around....kinda funny as they are the smallest.

If they're young red zebras, they are probably just playing but as they get mature they turn into real bullies.

Those red zebras are some trouble makers for sure... and they won't stay small for long.

The kenyi are suppose to get real mean too. Hope you've got them in a good size tank (like at least a 75g.) if you plan to keep them long term. Good luck.

Yup... another good mix of aggression.

I hope to get a bigger tank, i guess i didn't realize they'd need so much room...ive just had this one like a couple weeks...so maybe in upgrade in a while....i keep a close eye on them...they seem to get along, but they're young...

I almost did a community tank instead, but something just made me want cichlids..i dunno i guess ill have to upgrade to accomodate them...kinda glad i returned the dempseys...lol...that could have been worse than what it is now.

How many do you have of each? And how big is your tank? You could keep several Kenyi together.. It's just the combo of the 2 species ends up being pretty crazy. Both are extremely aggressive when it comes to territory.

Welcome to the mbuna world! It's never a dull moment! :)

Only a 30g....which i thought was huge for how small they are now. Guess i learned something new!!

2 Kenyi's
2 Red Zebras

If I were you now... I would get rid of the 2 zebras and 2 kenyis... 30 gal is way too small for those guys. You're looking at 75gal or bigger. A 5ft+ tank would be best.

I would go with dwarf cichlids... like rams or kribs for that size of tank. They are really nice looking fish.

If you are dead set on african mbuna cichlids. Then do some research on small doscile cichlid species like yellow labs and rusty cichlids). Or start planning your bigger tank now.

That's the way it goes... there is way too much to learn. :) Like I said, never a dull moment.
