Remember I posted about the albino tiger oscar I got from my friend who wasn't taking good care of them... well the one Albino she claimed used to be the normal black with orange... but had turned white. She said the person at the petstore told her they would turn white due to poor care.

Well since moving in with me, and actually being fed Hakari Cichlid pellets rather than just stupid tetra flakes, he's starting to turn black again in the fins and its slowly fading into black on the body.

So is this color changing BS actually true?? I'm soooo confused!

Oscars will get lighted in color depending on mood, lighting and care, but I've never heard of any actually going white... I'm interested to hear what others have to say.

He is probably an albino tiger and they get black color flares all the time. They are breed from the original strained tigers so the black will show through every once in awhile....

I hope this means he's happy and healthy now

If you can get them on either Hikari Cichlid BioGold+ or Large Fish Pellets from NLS he would be much better off. Try some cricket every once in awhile as they eat terrestial insects as part of their main diet in the wild. The crickets will provide way more protein than any feeder you could feed them. Bllodworms and krill are a good suppliment also. Hikari makes Biopure krill and bloodworms for them.

yea albino oscars do have black around the tips of the fins and some fins are just black, with gold/orange stripes on them.

I have seen this with goldfish as well. The breeding causes some genes to regress and some to become dominant, but all the genes are still there. Nutrition and water quality can change a fish's color as can stress level and tank mates. Not to mention, fish will alter colors when spawning or trying to attract a mate. It is generally gradual if it is a diet or health issue. If it is happening somewhat rapidly it is possibly a response to the other fish in the tank.
