I've got a baby convict that I rescued from bad conditions in a 2.5 gallon with some sort of fungal infection that hes almost rid of. Right now hes in a 9 gallon (22Lx17Wx5H) tank that im using to multiply plants. In the long run I think that that tank will be too shallow for him. The only spot I have for another tank right now can only fit 21"... well 23" but theres overhang on the desk. So I'm thinking the best option would be to go with a 15H with only a bit of substrate when he's fully grown to give him more space to roam. What do you guys think?

sounds good, a 15g is good enough for one

For now maybe OK but he will soon need a bit more room.

Good, I'll hopefully pick one up this week and start cycling it. I'll be running an AC 50 on it so with regular water changes the water should stay crystal clear.

20g sounds right for 1.
