After much thought and deliberation I've decided to leave AC. I've poured my heart and soul into this site, written reams of information in the hopes of benefitting other fishkeepers, and it has become brutally obvious to me that all of it means exactly nothing. Very few actually read them. Got just two answers in the recent weekly quiz. Offered my whole Culturing Manual complete with complete links and additional information. Three people took me up on it. And recent forum activities have made it plain that my contributions were just a waste of everyone's time.
I've taken one too many slaps in the face here, and its making me feel bitter toward the site. And bitter is not something I want to be.
Its been getting worse and worse over the last month or so and I've debated many times about giving up AC. It is time I did.
I do apologize to the few friends I have here that I'm leaving. To the folks I am personally guiding to aquarium success, I'm sorry. Perhaps we can continue via email.

I thought you guys were aware of this, but Dave was actually just a culture by a higher being. The heateron it's petri dish (daves house) blew out, freezing him overnight... J/K!

AC won't be the same without Dave....to me Dave was AC, always so helpful, he kept the forum going just as much as the mods did. It'll be hard without him.

Dave might resent a bunch of people having his email address. I know if I had made the decision to leave a forum and got bombarded with emails, I would not be happy either and would not be happy someone gave my email address out. He could easily come here and read and write PM's without his privacy being invaded?

The Mod's agreed some time ago that "GoodBye" threads would no longer remain. They just get the forum in an uproar and 9 times out of 10 the poster ends up returning.

I have known Dave for several years now....and have recently spoken to him regarding his leaving here. Actually, Hobbs....he has absolutely no problem whatsoever with select people having his email address. He doesn't at all mind keeping in touch and helping out people that truly want help with their fish and tanks. That is what he loves to do. What I know he doesn't want is to be asked why he left or begged to come back. He left for his own reason....those being very valid.
He asked me to pass along his email to anyone that asked at my discretion. No one has asked me. Well...actually on person did and I'm pretty sure I gave them his email. If I didn't Tolley, I appologize. I will be more than happy to as I did mention to him that you asked about him.
It's very sad that he left and it's a complete loss to this forum that he did so.
As for whether he will return? I can almost guarantee not.

Thanks for explaining gem but as you mentioned, he doesn't mind "select people" having his email. But is anyone and everyone select? I just feel peoples privacy should not be violated. I was just lookin' out for the Big Guy.

I didn't mean to stick my nose in, Doug, but I didn't want Dave to get upset. It had nothing to do with Dave, at all, and I would have felt the same about any member giving out anothers e-mail. I've since heard he wrote in his blog it was OK and as long as he gave permission?.....I'm fine with it.

Yep he posted he was unwelcomed and unappreciated as a member..... Crap I say.... 800 rep and bronze and silver achievement awards, motm twice.... Maybe he was a little unapprecative. He was upset because noone followed his primers and the culture series. He had more replies to any fish species/profile than I ever did for the three I wrote. I'm not whining. He was also mad because of the posting going on. Basically calling this a playground instead of a fish forum.... He needed to understand that this forum is filled with young members and not all have the patience or the money to culture. I miss him too but quite frankly when he posted he was unappreciated I took that as a personal slap in the face. People were on their hands and knees begging for information and thanking him.....
Everything in this post is valid ask the mods.... He wrote a goodbye post very late at night.... I think the only people that seen it was Hobbs, Drum, Cocoa, and myself... I am glad the mods deleted it actually. If you guys read it you would have different feelings I am sure..

He was probably the most knowledgable person about fish here, no offense to the other members. I don't think I ever questioned any advice he gave me. He just wasn't happy here, so he left.

But, due to speculation here, wondering what happened, thinking the Mods kicked him out and whatever else comes into their heads, I am going to post his original thread altho the Mods agreed way before Dave's post that these "goodbye" threads would no longer be left here.

We have all been in forums in the past and have left for one reason or another. People come and people go. That's the way forums work. We have had others leave since Dave's departure but have also gained 50 or so new members.

We've had some wonderful Members here that have left for various reasons. They had a fight with someone, the members here were too young, they prefer specialized forums, they got out of the hobby, they moved on or they are now working 3 jobs. We also get those who join, find out all they can about fishkeeping and don't return. Others take a sabbatical for awhile and return in 6 months. I find no mystery in this. This is a FORUM!

I hope this quells the questions and everyone realizes this exit was Daves decision and his post will put your mind to rest!

From what posts of his I read, I agree he was very knowledgable...but so are many other people on this forum.

Maybe Dave should start his own forum...then he can organize it how he would like to.

I hope the fact that Hobbs brought back the good bye post by Dave66 ( [Only Registered Users Can See Links.] ) will end all speculations on why he left and that we now can move forward. I am sure we all miss Dave66 but he choose to move on, it is his choice even though we can hope he comes back. In the meantime we can just wish him the best and only the future will tell if he returns in time.

Yeah he was incredibly helpful. Answered all my pms as soon as he could. Members come and go like hobbs said but Dave wasnt just any regular member, he was a super member and those don't come around often.
