Ok Now that i have a little bit of money, I can get a canister filter. Now im thinking the Rena xp3 or the fluval 405. The xp3 is rated up to like 100+ while the 405 is rated up to 100. What you think? 200 is the limit i can spend.

You would not go wrong with choosing either of those filters.

You think the rena xp3 would be good for 2 firemouths and an oscar, or is the fluval 405 better? I only want to run 1 filter, and i want it to be one of these.

I have both of those filters and either one would do a great job. Tho I do find the xp3 a little easier to maintain.

Ok. But filtering wise what did you find better?

I always find you can't beat an Eheim filter.. but everyone has their own faves :19:

I agree with the Eheim but not everyone will spend that much money on a cannister filter.

The filter is only as good as the filter media that you put in it.

I like the XP3 better than the 405, quieter I think.
Like I said it's all in the media you put in the filter and if it will be the only filter in the tank. On the tanks that I have cannisters I use my cannisters for mostly biological filtration and usually an Aquaclear for set up for polishing the water.

Ok, what if i kept 1 Penguin 350 going, and ran the fluval 405? Would that be better than running 2 penguin 350's?? I really like Fluval and I think with that, and the 1 penguin, with 2 sponge filters running will be good.

Alright, i might go with the Fluval 405 then. Are they easy to use? Clean?
