First things first. This is my first post to this forum. So hello to all!
Now on to business.
A friend just gave me, free of charge, a 90 gallon tank complete with stand, filter, glass top and light strip. The light isn't much and I intend to replace it with something a bit more powerful in the next 6 months or so. So no plants for now. In the meantime, I am going to get the tank started with some South American Cichlids. I have kept just about every other type of fish community you can think of over the years (some 45 years of fish keeping now). But this is my first venture into these fish. Heck, this is the first time I have had a tank big enough to consider it!
My intention is to avoid the super aggressive types like Oscars, Dempseys, Jaguars, etc., and go with some of the somewhat less aggressive types such as firemouths, geophagus, and the like. My question is what other types of fish would work to add some variety. Silver dollars are a possibility but I am thinking of plants at some point in the future, so perhaps that isn't the best option. Any catfish that will work well? If possible, I would like to add a few smaller type fish to inhabit the rockwork in the tank.
So, I am open to suggestions from those with experience.
Doug
