I'm writing this as fast as I can so I can get back to my budgie, so sorry for any spelling mistakes.
I was away from home for about 3 hours, I come back and I see my female budgie parakeet about 6 inches submerged underwater in my 55 gallon. She got in but couldn't get out and she wasn't moving. I rushed and picked her up, got him out and thank god she is alive. I have no idea how long she was in the water, it could have been hours or minutes.
Right now she is wrapped up in a blanket. She is lying down and shaking, breathing, but not moving except for the occasional twitch and a non-stop shake. She already spat up about a teaspoon of water.
The emergency vet should be here in 20 minutes...Rue, Crack? What can I do? If the vet can't find anything what can I do? Has this ever happened to anybody? Is there any way to do CPR on a budgie? What can the vet do?

oh my gosh!!!! i am glad you found her before she died. i hope she makes it. i am not sure what you can do for her, I dont know that much about it. cpr would be really hard considering how small her lungs are.
I would put her in a small cage...with a heat lamp (don't let it get too hot!)...and watch her carefully.
She'll be in some shock, so the heat will help...watch too that she isn't coughing, if she got water in her lungs, it could be serious.
When you've got her set-up under the heat, give the vet a call and see what they suggest.
I hope she's okay!

Ok, all is well now....or so I hope.
The vet came and said she had a bit of water in her, he did some stuff and put some kinda tube down her throat and she coughed up a ton of water.
She is in her cage now, I separated her from the male until she's feeling better, and I put the lamp in so the cage is fairly warm, but not overly so. She's not eating and not moving, just perched there next to the lamp, but at least she can stand up.
I'll be watching her, I hope this gets better.
Thanks!

I hope she's okay, Nick! Keep us updated. Sounds like you came home at the right time.
Hope she does well! As you found out...you need to be careful! All aquariums should be appropriately covered for the safety of other critters...

I hope she pulls through Nick, thankfully you got home when you did. I'm glad Rue and the vet were able to be of assistance.

I woke up today and went to check on the budgie.
She was lying at the bottome of the cage not moving, but when I went up to the cage I gave her a little poke and she jumped right up and started squaking at me. I'm not sure why she was lying there, not a good sign I think, but she's all right at least. I gave her a little millet spray (her favourite) which she ignored. She's recovering, and I took the lamp out, but she sure isn't happy about the whole thing.
My old hood broke a little while ago, so as I cheap replacement I picked up this one and saved $50. It has the whole back of the tank open and not covered, so put HOBs and stuff in there, I think she got in that way.
Well, what I saved on the hood I lost in the $100 vet visit, but at least she's ok. I'll be sealing up the hood today, thanks for all the support!
