Well my wife decided to go to the petstore today while I was out trout fishing. I came home and our 10 gallon now has two dwarf gourami in it. I was a little frustrated with the wife but thought about it and the filter is an ac50 so it will hold the bioload easy. Now the tank has 2 dwarf gourami, 4 clown killies, 3 dwarf panda cories, 1 neon, 2 zebra danio, and 2 glolight tetra. I told my wife absolutely no more. There is no more room. Hopefully she listens this time. They are peaceful and no problems yet. I have the hornwort in there so they are appreciating that. The tank is not crowded in and everyone has room to move so I am not as upset as when I first seen them. I will try to take some pics as soon as I can get them. Probably tomorrow as I am now just chilling and relaxing after a long day in the sun fishing.

Not fighting at all. They are very peaceful. I am not sure how to sex them. I am currently looking for how to sex them. Hopefully it is a pair and not two males. I'd say from the peacefulness of the two they are not two males. One is red and white with stripes and the other is blue. I will spend the next two hours or so reading about them as I have never kept them. That was by biggest frustration with the wife. I absolutely hate and don't under any circumstance impulse buy fish so you can see my frustration..... I will post another thread also as my 10 gallon split betta tank got two new inhabitatnts also.....

Males have the colour.. Females are almost completely silver..
Sounds like you got 2 different varieties of Dwarf gourami

i am ashamed to say I have no idea what variety or sex they are. This is a big mess. i will hopefully get it figured out here in the next couple hours. I will post a gourami help thread as soon as I get a chance. I am going to go get the pics now.

if there dwarf gouramis then theres about a 99% chance they are male, and they are peaceful for now but may not get aggressive till a couple weeks after being in the tank, but you might get lucky and get 2 that get along

I hope that yours stay peaceful. I got two Dwarfs and they were fine for about 2 weeks. Now they are not happy at all. You can see the details in my post asking for help. I am hopeful that one of them will get along with my Betta in the 10g tank. If not, I am not sure what I will do! I look forward to pics and hopefully your peaceful success.

I am trying to devise a plan to take one back to the petstore without my wife killing me in my sleep lol...... Any Suggestions?????
I think I finally figured women out.... (after 5.5 years of marriage lol)
If you tell them no they will do it anyway and feel bad later.
If you tell them yes you just gave them a get outta jail free card.

Wife has the camera and won't be back until 2 am so like 5 hours. I'll post tomorrow. They are two varities. Blue dwarf gourami and the other I haven't figured out yet. It is silver with red streaks vertically on his body and red highlights on his fins. I am still looking.

No problem!
Ok, so a female of this variety would have a silver body and just a bit or ed on the lower fins.. She would also be noticeably smaller.
That would hold true for the other varieties, so like I say, I think you have 2 males of different subsets...

I think also two males of different types. So far they are being nice. The lights are out now and I will check tomorrow when they go back on. All my lights are on coralife timers.

I think one will have to go..
Like other members have said, they may get along now, but once they start to carve out territories, they may get testy with one another..

I'm figuring on one of them to go. I am just trying to figure out how to get my wife to let me take it back because that is her tank. Tomorrow I will explain the aggression problem. This is going to end up as another 10 gallon split betta tank purchase lol.... I can see it now!!!!. Okay with me though. I am in love with bettas since our two new ones we have bought.... Might work out for the both of us.
I think I just answered my own question. I can cycle another 10 gallon and put the one dwarf gourami in there with some neons and glolights. She would love that....

Maybe you and your wife can both take one of them back to the pet store and pick out a replacement together? Of course, this is just one wife's opinion...:c3:

To tell the difference between male and female, look at their dorsal fin (the one on the top - that's the dorsal fin, right?). The male's dorsal is more pointy while the female's is more rounded. I had a thread about it before where I had pictures. I'll do a search to find it for you.
If you do have two males, which you most likely do, you should definitely take one back. They may be acting civil right now, but from everything that I've read, the longer they're in the tank together, the more they'll fight. They start to settle in and the newness wears off, and then they actually begin to notice that hey! There's more testosterone in this tank than I want - let's do something about it!
Could you get a 5.5g going to put one of the gourami in with a few cories or something just so you don't have to take one back? That may be an option. Good luck!

That's priceless. You fear her wrath for taking fish back, and I have to sneak mine in! My wife hates my tanks because our house is so small that they only fit on our bedroom dressers. And she thinks the money could be better spent.
AS IF!!!!
